Richard Beckman:
Outside the Curve of Reason
June 16 – September 6, 2014
USF Contemporary Art Museum
Lee & Victor Leavengood Gallery
This exhibition features sculptures by Richard Beckman (1957-2004) from Florida collections. Beckman’s organic and geometric forms in human scale investigate the dynamic balance between mind and body, and the synthesis of this duality through materials and process. Exposing the ambiguity between the inner and outer, order and chaos, positive and negative, Beckman’s work, when grouped together, creates unique relationships and dialogues between the forms as bodies. Richard Beckman was an Associate Professor of Art at USF College of The Arts from 1991 to 2004 and received national recognition for his exhibitions in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Curated by Sarah Howard, USF Institute for Research in Art; organized by USF Contemporary Art Museum.
