November 4 – December 17, 2005 Symposium | Angela Boatwright, Ryan McGinness and Christian Strike Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art and Street Culture is an exhibition of multi-media art and design that explores the recent work of a diverse group of visual artists that have emerged from aspects of street culture loosely organized around the subcultures of skateboarding, graffiti, punk, and hip-hop in urban U.S. cities. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, photography, film, video and performance by thirty individuals who have emerged over the last decade. This exhibition chronicles a 30-year span of multi-disciplinary street artists creating a generational lineage as well as important contributors Shepard Fairey, Barry McGee, Ryan McGinness and Clare E. Rojas. The exhibition also examines the work of cultural producers who had a direct influence on the development of this generation of artists, including Jean Michel-Basquiat, Larry Clark, Keith Haring, and Andy Warhol.
